The role of equality and diversity is central to our values, processes and behaviours. We are committed to eliminating unlawful discrimination, to promoting equal opportunities within the way we commission healthcare services and to develop a diverse, well-supported workforce that reflects the population we serve.
We have a responsibility called the Public Sector Equality Duty, which applies to most public authorities, including CCGs. Under the terms of this duty, we must:
- Eliminate unlawful discrimination, harassment and victimisation and other conduct prohibited under the Act.
- Advance equality of opportunity between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it.
- Foster good relations between persons who share a relevant protected characteristic and persons who do not share it
This duty applies to the services we provide, and to our role as a commissioner of other services.
You can find information on how we fulfil this duty in our Annual Report on the Plans, Priorities and Progress page.
Measuring and Delivering Equality
NHS England has developed a variety of tools to support health service organisations to meet the Public Sector Duty including the Workplace Race Equality Standard and the Equality and Diversity System 2. It is anticipated that a Workforce Disability Equality Standard will also come into force shortly.
WRES Data for the Central Sussex and East Surrey Commissioning Alliance
The Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) is a tool to support health organisations to meet their Public Sector Equality Duty. Data for the Workplace Race Equality Standard for the Central Sussex and East Surrey Commissioning Alliance is available here.
NHG Brighton and Hove CCG reviews its workforce and staff survey data on an annual basis and produces an Workforce Race Equality Standard (WRES) action plan. You can find a copy of the Action Plan in the table below.
Equality and Diversity System 2 (EDS2)
The Equality Delivery Systems 2 (EDS2) framework is a tool-kit that helps the CCG monitor the services that we commission and ensures the CCG is able to comply with Public Sector Equality Duty. You can find a copy of the EDS2 for NHS Brighton and Hove in the table below.
You can find detailed local demographic data, including information on protected characteristics, on the Brighton and Hove Connected website.
