A free NHS Health Check is a simple appointment that could save your life. Taking action now can help prevent the onset of life-affecting conditions including heart disease, type 2 diabetes, kidney disease and stroke.

Anyone who meets the following criteria is entitled to a free NHS health check in Brighton and Hove:

  • Is aged between 40-74 years of age
  • Is not diagnosed with or being treated for cardiovascular disease (i.e. heart disease, diabetes, stroke, kidney disease, cholesterol, high blood pressure)
  • Has not had an NHS Health Check within the last 5 years
  • Lives in the Brighton & Hove area

How to book an NHS Health Check

Health Checks are available in the majority of GP surgeries; you can book a Health Check and find out more information by contacting your GP surgery directly. 

What happens during an NHS Health Check?

Appointments last around 30 minutes and are carried out by a qualified nurse who will check your:

  • blood pressure
  • body mass index
  • risk of heart disease
  • diabetes risk
  • cholesterol

and provide you with personalised healthy lifestyle advice to lower your risk.
